Gumbo Limbo Giving Back

Gumbo Limbo loves turtles! A portion of each Gumbo Limbo rental is donated to local charities that work to protect and study gopher tortoises and the sea turtles that nest on North Captiva.

Gumbo Limbo's yard is certified "Gopher Tortoise Friendly" by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and 3 resident tortoises live on the property. Gopher tortoises are a protected species whose populations are vulnerable to extinction due to human activities.  Hundreds of tortoises call North Captiva home and many live in the State Preserve on the south end of the island and on other"tortoise friendly" properties.  When driving around the island, take extra care to look out for baby tortoises and other wildlife that may be crossing.

North Captiva's beaches are prime nesting areas for endangered Loggerhead and Green sea turtles. Hardworking volunteers from the North Captiva Sea Turtle Foundation faithfully monitor and protect sea turtle nests on the island.  You can help sea turtles by not leaving any beach equipment on the shore overnight and by picking up any trash (especially plastic bags and monofilament fishing line) that you find.

Gumbo Limbo donates a portion of each rental to the North Captiva Sea Turtle Foundation and the Gopher Tortoise Council.  Click on the tabs below to visit their websites, find out more about their efforts to save endangered turtles, and learn how you can help!
